USS LIBERTY VETERANS TELL ALL ABOUT THEIR EXPERIENCE

In this powerful and sobering conversation, Jeremy Slayden hosts a rare panel of USS Liberty survivors who lived through one of the most controversial and painful events in modern American military history.

Joining the program are Phil Tourney, Larry Bowen, and Mo Schaefer—three decorated U.S. Navy veterans who were aboard the USS Liberty on June 8, 1967, when Israel attacked the clearly marked American intelligence ship during the Six-Day War in the Middle East. Over the course of nearly two hours, waves of air and naval assaults left 34 American servicemen dead and 171 wounded, making it one of the deadliest attacks ever carried out against a U.S. naval vessel outside of a declared war.

Each of these men witnessed the attack from different parts of the ship. In this discussion, they recount what they saw that day—from the initial reconnaissance flights and sudden air assault, to the devastating torpedo strike that tore a massive hole in the vessel and killed dozens of sailors below deck. They also describe the desperate efforts of the crew to save the wounded, keep the ship afloat, and survive through the night without immediate rescue.

Beyond the battle itself, the veterans speak candidly about the decades that followed—why they believe the real story of the USS Liberty is being covered up, the pressure they say they faced to remain silent, and their ongoing mission through the USS Liberty Veterans Association to ensure the public hears firsthand testimony from those who were there.

More than half a century later, two central questions still remain:

Why does the US Government continue to Cover-Up the truth—and what can we do about it?
