Chairman of Silverstein Properties and Ground Zero developer in New York

Ground Zero New York developer Larry Silverstein — Chairman of Silverstein Properties, a real estate development and investment company headquartered in Manhattan. The company has owned and managed office, hotel, and commercial projects totaling more than 32,000 square meters. The company is currently developing properties valued at approximately $8 billion.

In July 2001, Larry Silverstein completed the largest real estate transaction in the United States when he signed a 99-year lease for the World Trade Center (the Twin Towers). All of this took place two months before the terrorist attack on the Twin Towers.

Today, he is engaged in the construction of the new office complex at Ground Zero, a project estimated at approximately $20 billion and considered the work of his lifetime.

Mr. Silverstein devotes his time and resources to organizations promoting education, medical research, humanitarian needs, and support for the arts. Mr. Silverstein served as chairman of the board of the UJA Foundation. He is one of the founders of the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York and also served as treasurer of the Jewish medical center in Denver, Colorado.

Today, Mr. Silverstein serves as a board member of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra. He is an enthusiastic lover of classical music, an experienced yacht sailor, and a proud resident of New York City.

Clara and Larry Silverstein have been married for 58 years and are the parents of three children, some of whom work at Silverstein Properties.
